McLaren is making a habit of showing off the capabilities of its Special Operations department here at The Quail, during the Pebble Beach weekend. Last year the Special Ops folks brought us the tremendously cool McLaren X-1, while this year they’ve rolled in with a pair of customized MP4-12C Spiders that are all dressed up to party with the blue bloods.
Upgrades to the Macs are nearly all cosmetic, we were told, but unfortunately the company hasn’t given us a detailed list of changes to the brace of Spiders. Obviously the Special Operations cars are wearing custom liveries here; the deep purple car somewhat outshining the two-tone, silver-roofed Spider it shares the stage with. The all-white hides in the interior of the Cesar Romero-spec 12C are actually quite lovely in person, and both cars surprise and delight with a host of small touches like the carbon fiber-backed hood emblem. Don’t take our word for it though, check out the McLarens for yourself in the gallery, above.
